Millsboro Man Pleads Guilty to Attempted Enticement and Child Pornography Charges
Shane Kiser, age 29, of Millsboro, Delaware, pled guilty today to attempted enticement of a minor and possession of child pornography, in violation of federal law. Charles M. Oberly, III, United States Attorney for the District of Delaware, announced the guilty plea following a hearing in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware.
Kiser, who will be sentenced on March 12, 2012, 2012 by United States District Judge Sue L. Robinson, faces a mandatory minimum sentence of ten years in prison and a maximum sentence of life on the attempted enticement conviction. He faces a maximum sentence of ten years in prison on the possession of child pornography conviction. Kiser also faces a term of supervised release following his prison sentence of five years to life, and will be required to register as a sex offender in any jurisdiction in which he lives, works, or attends school. Kiser has been detained since his October 16, 2010 arrest.
According to statements made and documents filed in court, Kiser came to the attention of the Delaware Child Predator Task Force, when he allegedly contacted an undercover Delaware State Police detective in an internet chat room devoted to those with a sexual interest in young boys. The undercover detective was posing as the father of a nine-year-old boy available for sex with adult males. Unbeknownst to Kiser, the 9-year-old boy was fictional. Kiser and the undercover detective engaged in online chats about Kiser’s interest in engaging in sex acts with young boys, during which Kiser expressed a sexual interest in toddlers in particular. Kiser met the undercover detective at Dover Downs Hotel and Casino, on October 16, 2010, for what Kiser believed was a planned sexual encounter with the fictitious boy. Kiser brought with him Hot Wheels cars as gifts for the boy, along with a baby pacifier that he wanted the boy to suck on while Kiser and he engaged in sex acts. Kiser was arrested in the hotel parking lot after approaching the undercover detective’s vehicle. Also on October 16, 2010, the Delaware Child Predator Task Force executed a search warrant at Kiser’s Millsboro residence, where they seized computer equipment containing over 1,000 files depicting child pornography, most of which focused on toddlers and infants engaged in sex acts with adult males.
Following the plea hearing, United States Attorney Charles M. Oberly, III stated, “It is predators such as Kiser who represent the most serious threat to defenseless children, and who are ready, willing and able to destroy young lives to satisfy their own sick desires. What Kiser was prepared to do on October 16, 2010 is incomprehensible and deserves the most serious of consequences. I commend the policing authorities and Assistant United States Attorney Ed McAndrew for their excellent work in riding the people of Delaware of another predator before he could actually carry out his vile deed.”
